The Jets signed veteran QB Trevor Siemian to their practice squad, per source!

The New York Jets now have a depth chart that includes two quarterbacks.

It is reported that the Gang Green Jets signing veteran QB Trevor Siemian to the practice squad, subject to a physical. The Jets made the deal public on Tuesday night.

Over the course of eight seasons, the 31-year-old quarterback has started 30 games since the Denver Broncos selected him in the seventh round of the 2015 NFL Draft. Twenty-four of their debuts occurred in the Mile High City in 2016 and ’17.

Siemian was a member of the Jets’ 2019 roster, while Adam Gase was the team’s head coach. The quarterback started once that year for Gang Green when Sam Darnold had mono and missed time. After a 3-for-6 night in terms of passing yardage, Siemian left the game with an ankle injury that would terminate his season.

Since then, Siemian has jumped about, spending 2020 on the practice squad of the Tennessee Titans and 2021 with the New Orleans Saints, where he made four starts. In 2022, the veteran played backup for the Chicago Bears. In his lone start last season, which also happened to be against the New York Jets, he completed 14 of 25 passes for 179 yards, a touchdown, and an interception and took two sacks in a 31-10 defeat.

There may be some crossover in knowledge between the systems given that Luke Getsy, Siemian’s OC in Chicago, worked for three seasons with Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett on the Green Bay Packers staff.

Siemian spent the summer in Cincinnati vying with Jake Browning for the backup job to Joe Burrow, a position he ultimately failed to secure.

Since Aaron Rodgers’ season-ending Achilles injury, Gang Green has fallen to 1-2 as quarterback Zach Wilson has labored mightily to move the ball. Jets supporters have been demanding that the team make a change at quarterback, despite Robert Saleh’s unwavering support of rookie quarterback Russell Wilson. Tim Boyle is now the team’s backup. The signing of Siemian probably won’t help calm Jets supporters’ anger, but it does highlight how few viable choices there are at quarterback right now.
