The announcement indicates that Sky Group is willing to go along with Spark Sport in the streaming market, while focusing on one of their biggest strengths, their sports coverage.

12 dedicated sport channels

From August 1, 2019, Sky Sport will be increased to 12 sport-specific channels in HD , replacing what is currently Sky Sport 1 to 4, plus the two ESPN channels.

The new package includes four specific channels for cricket, rugby, football and golf, which will deliver massive sports coverage both live and other, including classic replays and documentary movies.

Another five channels will feature most of the rugby, netball, league and motorsport.

Channels across SKY will also include a brand new 24/7 Sky Sport News channel which will feature the content from Sky Sports News UK and Fox Sports News Australia.

In addition, the news channel will also include live coverage of press and news conferences.

To sum up the intentions of the Sky group, Martin Stewart, Sky chief Executive said: “Delivering the best of sports to our customers and to help our partners in sports growing the interest and base of their fans is what we’re here for,”
