Former Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho said he will not assume the position of coach at Benfica, arguing that for now, he has no intention of training in Portugal.
Mourinho was dismissed from United in December after two years at the helm of the English club.
“I haven’t received any offer, and if it happened, obviously the president of Benfica and the club would be the first to know my decision,” said the technician on the website of the newspaper Correo da Manha.
“But I think I can say today that I have no intention of going back to work in Portugal,” he said. “I’m fine right now. Today I’m not an option for Benfica, nothing more than that.
Coach Rui Vitoria left Benfica last Thursday after an agreement with the club.
Mourinho began his coaching career at Benfica in 2000 but was only in charge of nine games. He then went on to play for Porto, Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Inter Milan.
