Carolina Marin becomes badminton history after her third world gold medal

Spanish player Carolina Marin became the first woman in badminton history to win three world championships after showing off to India’s Pusarla Sindhu with a 21-19 21-10 final in China on Sunday.

The 25-year-old from Huelva is thus expanding her brilliant record and is now a legend in the legendary category of a racket sport in which, until her arrival, Chinese players were the dominant force.

“This medal is very special for me after a difficult time,” she said on television after stepping off the podium in Nanjing, where she finished eighth in the world ranking.

In addition to the three World Cups, Marin was the Olympic champion in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and is the reigning European champion, a title she has won four times.
