Patrick Mahomes’ Reaction to Chiefs Possibly Departing Kansas City and Acquiring Hollywood Brown

The possibility of the Chiefs no longer calling Kansas City their home is looming, as the team under the leadership of Patrick Mahomes might soon exit Arrowhead Stadium. This could mark a significant change for the AFC West squad.

Patrick Mahomes, the prominent quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, appears to have responded to the news about the team acquiring wide receiver, Marquise “Hollywood” Brown. The news broke during the legal tampering period in NFL free agency, and it appears that the reigning Super Bowl MVP is thrilled about the addition to the Chiefs’ receiving corps.

Thursday night saw the announcement that the ex-Arizona Cardinals receiver is moving to the Chiefs, securing a one-year contract potentially worth as much as $11 million. Following Calvin Ridley’s signing with the Tennessee Titans the previous day, Brown emerged as the top receiver available on the market for a brief period.

There’s a possibility that the Chiefs will soon exit Arrowhead Stadium. Reports suggest the AFC West squad might move out of Kansas City in the upcoming period, possibly resulting in Patrick Mahomes showcasing his skills in another city.

The Chiefs boast a rich legacy in the NFL. Initially termed the Texans, their first season was in Dallas before they made the move to Kansas City in 1963, where they’ve stayed to this day.

The team has seen considerable success in the NFL in the past few years. Nonetheless, economic pressures could compel them to think about departing from their long-term residence and bidding farewell to Arrowhead Stadium.

Despite leading the Chiefs to another Super Bowl victory and earning Super Bowl MVP honors, Mahomes faced challenges in terms of his throwing options during the 2023 season. While tight end Travis Kelce remained ultra-reliable, the team lacked a consistent wide receiver threat. Rookie Rashee Rice emerged as a promising option, but other receivers like Kadarius Toney and Marquez Valdes-Scantling struggled to provide the consistent production needed from a true WR1.

Multiple reports surfaced on Thursday, indicating that the Chiefs had agreed to a one-year deal with Marquise “Hollywood” Brown. The former 2019 first-round pick brings speed and playmaking ability to the Kansas City offense. Brown, who had a 1,000-receiving-yard campaign with the Baltimore Ravens two years ago, spent the last two seasons with the Arizona Cardinals.

In 2023, Brown’s production declined as he caught 51 passes on 101 targets for 574 yards and four touchdowns. It was his least productive season since his rookie year in Baltimore. However, the Cardinals faced quarterback uncertainties throughout the year, with Kyler Murray returning from an ACL tear in mid-November. Now, with Patrick Mahomes at the helm, Brown has an opportunity to revive his downhill speed and become a respectable threat once again.
