The Kansas City Chiefs clawed out a 17-10 win on the road against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, but that victory was somewhat marred by the sighting of wide receiver Rashee Rice on the sidelines. After the game, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes discussed Rice’s injury during the team’s media availability, which uniforms emphasized the severity of the situation.
Earlier in the first quarter, Rice fumbled, trying to pick up an interception while being held by Mahomes and other Chargers’ defenders. Trying to tackle a Chargers defensive back alongside the sideline, Rice ran into Mahomes which caused him to be carted off the field. People fans believe that this was the time he sustained the injury.
After the game, Mahomes said that he Aspires the results from the tests done on Rice’s injury will be positive. Even now, he said that as much as he could recall, he first knew that “it was not good” once Rice got injured. Concerning Rice, Mahomes said, ‘Yeah, we will see with Rashee, guys, if he is out there,’ and urged the rest of the players if Rice is out, ‘We need someone to fill the gap.’ Maybe he should play again at some point this year but if he can’t other guys just have to step up. He had ruined my chances of dogging it, which is what football is all about.
Rice has also been important in the Chiefs’ offense profile to become the official No.1 wide receiver after his performance during his rookie year in 2023. He leads the team heavily in both targets and receptions; he has caught 24 of 29 passes this season. The next closest is Xavier Worthy, a rookie who hasn’t received more than 11 targets. He has been especially relevant as the Chiefs chase a third Super Bowl reign in as many years, after winning titles in 2023 and 2024.
KANSAS CITY CHIEFS HEAD COACH Andy Reid said that Rice’s leg will undergo more tests on Monday, including an MRI to establish the extent of the injury. While the Chiefs are dealing with this loss, the rest of the squad will look forward to Week 5 after a shiny 4-0 performance in Kansas this season.
