Travis Kelce to Take on First Major Acting Role in Ryan Murphy’s Horror Series ‘Grotesquerie’

Travis Kelce is set to appear in Ryan Murphy’s latest horror series titled “Grotesquerie.”

This fall, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end will be stepping into the acting arena with a significant role in the FX series, alongside stars Niecy Nash-Betts, Courtney B. Vance, and Lesley Manville. While specifics about his character remain under wraps, this project signifies Kelce’s debut in a major acting capacity.

Kelce shared an update via an Instagram Story, posting a video with Nash-Betts to confirm the recent news.

“In the clip, Nash-Betts teases, ‘Guess who my colleague is on the ‘Grotesquerie’ set?’ before swiveling the camera to reveal Kelce.”

“Stepping into new territory with Niecy,” Kelce adds.

In March 2023, the NFL celebrity took on several roles in sketches while hosting an episode of “Saturday Night Live.” Additionally, he made an appearance on the Showtime show “Moonbase 8,” which features stars like Fred Armisen, Tim Heidecker, and John C. Reilly.

In 2016, Kelce ventured into the world of reality TV by creating his own dating show, “Catching Kelce,” which aired for a single season. He will soon take on the role of host for the Prime Video game show, “Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?”

Venturing beyond acting, Kelce stepped into the role of film producer with his first project, the 2024 independent movie “My Dear Friend Zoe,” which made its debut at the SXSW.

Murphy has a reputation for fostering the transition of talent into the realm of acting. A few years back, he offered Lady Gaga her inaugural significant acting opportunity in “American Horror Story: Hotel.” Her acting career flourished from there, leading to a prominent role in “A Star Is Born,” for which she received an Oscar nomination for her acting.

Much like Kelce, Gaga too had taken the helm at SNL Murphy, which gave her an opportunity.

“Grotesquerie,” a project that Murphy is undertaking alongside his regular collaborators Jon Robin Baitz and Joe Baken, revealed a teaser composed entirely of text in February. It included a voice clip from Nash-Betts’ portrayal of the character saying, “I can’t say when it started, but things have changed. There’s a noticeable change as if something in the world is giving way—opening into an abyss that plunges into emptiness.”

In a video, she tagged, “That’s a wrap!” he shared his relief at having made it through without causing harm, as he confessed to her, “I’m just relieved I didn’t injure anyone!”

In a different instance, he advised his followers to “brace themselves,” though not everyone agreed with the choice of actor.

Following Variety’s disclosure of the casting decisions, critics chimed in, labeling him a “nepotism boyfriend,” among other similar terms. This overlooks the fact that, despite the playful nature of Swift’s fanbase, it wasn’t Taylor Swift who catapulted the renowned Chiefs figure into prominence.

Since his college days, Kelce and his management team have crafted a detailed business strategy aimed at steering him toward a career in the entertainment industry. Their decision to accept the proposal for his dating show, “Catching Kelce,” was based on the belief that it would create further opportunities in the field.

Reality television was merely a stone for him, as he dedicated multiple years to pursuing a spot on Saturday Night Live. His persistence paid off when he finally met Michael. Following a victory over his brother Jason at the 2023 Super Bowl, he not only achieved his lifelong ambition to host the show but also returned later in the year for a short appearance alongside his girlfriend.

A supporter made it clear to those criticising him for allegedly using her to secure more work opportunities by stating, “He had already committed to several projects, including the game show, well before Taylor’s involvement. He performed exceptionally well on SNL. So, what seems to be the problem?”

“Even before he made his move on, he was already swamped with commitments,” replied another. “The added attention was a bonus, but he was already on the rise with significant advancements.”

“Another remarked, ‘Of course, he’s all tied up with commitments,’ noting his undeniable charm, engaging personality, and sheer talent. Trav is sure to excel.”
