Delays in the construction of two key Olympic venues could force the organizers of the Tokyo Games to reorganize the timing of the test events, the organizing committee announced.
The Olympic Games Aquatic Centre, which will host swimming and diving events, as well as the Sea Forest Waterway, which will host rowing and canoeing competitions in 2020, are two months behind schedule, according to organizers.
Both venues will be completed well before the opening ceremony of the Games on 24 July 2020, but the organizers may have to reschedule some test events due to delays.
“We have been informed that there is a delay from the original schedule in two venues,” said Tokyo 2020 spokesman Masa Takaya.
“We are working closely with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the respective federations to resolve it and possibly modify the schedule of test events (…) Apart from that, the permanent venue schedules are definitely on the right track.
