Former world number one Maria Sharapova will return to the circuit as a guest at the Mallorca Open, four months after undergoing surgery on her right shoulder.
The Russian has not competed since she retired from a second-round match in St. Petersburg in January and skipped the entire clay season, including the French Open.
“I’m very happy to announce that I will accept the invitation to play at the Mallorca Open,” said the 32-year-old in a statement.
“I want to thank the tournament for the opportunity it gives me and all my incredible fans who have supported me in recent months,” he added.
The Mallorca Open, a pre-Wimbledon preparation event, begins on 17 June. The tournament this year will feature other former world number one, such as Wimbledon defending champion Angelique Kerber and Belarusian Victoria Azarenka.
