Juventus coach Maurizio Sarri hopes to meet Jose Mourinho who currently coaches Tottenham Hotspur in the last 16 of the Champions League. If that happens, Sarri feels it will be an extraordinary match.
Juventus qualified for the knockout phase after a successful match overcoming Bayer Leverkusen 2-0 resistance. An additional three points at BayArena on Thursday (12/12/2019) in the morning, making the Bianconeri top of Group A. Of the six matches Juventus successfully won 16 points with only one draw.
Tottenham achieved different results when diving into the last game group stage. Mourinho’s foster children lost 1-3 when they travel to the headquarters of Bayern Munich. Even so, Tottenham escaped after finishing second in Group B.
Aside from Tottenham, Juventus also have the opportunity to meet Chelsea Borussia Dortmund, Lyon or Real Madrid. But, Sarri seems to be happy if he meets Tottenham because he will be reunited with Mourinho, who once shared a career in the English Premier League.
“I have the honor to get to know (Mourinho) and I respect him. Mourinho is an extraordinary person who is very different from the perceptions that the outside world has towards him,” Sarri said as reported by 7upsports on Thursday (12/12/2019).
“It’s nice to know him. Playing against him isn’t easy, but seeing him again will be good,” added Sarri, who once coached Chelsea.
In the draw of the Round of 16 Champions League which will be held in Lyon, Switzerland, Monday (12/16/2019), Juventus will join group winners Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Liverpool, Barcelona, RB Leipzig, and Valencia. When asked who is the favorite of champions this season, Sarri firmly said, “Manchester City.”
