Pep Guardiola said there was no reason for Manchester United (MU) to fire Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Pep Guardiola said there was no reason for Manchester United (MU) to fire Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. According to him, the Norwegian coach is already on the right track and will be able to restore the glory of the Red Devils.

Solskjaer became the first coach to beat Guardiola twice at the Etihad Stadium. Previously, he beat the skipper Manchester City (Man City) was 2-1 in the Premier League on December 8 last.

Then, Solskjaer again beat Guardiola 1-0 also Etihad Stadium in the second leg of the English League Cup semi-final (Carabao Cup) on Thursday (30/1). Despite winning over Man City, MU failed to advance to the top because they lost 2-3 aggregates.

This means the opportunity for the Red Devils to win the title this season only in the FA Cup and Europa League. In the FA Cup, Anthony Martial et al have reached the fifth round. Whereas in the Europa League managed to penetrate the last 32.

This makes the future of Solskjaer again debated. Many assess the 46-year-old coach should be fired. But, Guardiola has another opinion. The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich architect feels his colleagues must be defended.

‘Maybe now they (MU) are still not consistent. Maybe when host, they have difficulty when facing an opponent who is too defensive. But, over time, they will definitely be back like MU in previous years,’ said Guardiola, reported by Thesun.

Guardiola feels Solskjaer has done his job right. Therefore, he is optimistic that the former MU striker can restore the glory of the Red Devils sooner or later. This opinion is based on the performance of the players.

‘I like the way they play. The quality of players in the front row is extraordinary. I told you before we lost at home. I have a feeling they are trying to do what the coach wants. I think it works,’ he said.
