Neymar is out for 10 weeks due to injury and will not play against Manchester United
Paris Saint-Germain Neymar’s hopes in the Champions League suffered a major setback on Wednesday when it was announced that their most popular player, striker Neymar, will be 10 weeks away from the pitch with a foot injury.
The Brazilian, who fractured a metatarsal, will miss two Champions League Round of 16 matches against Manchester United but could be ready for an eventual quarter-final in April if his squad makes it through.
The first leg against the English team will be played on 12 February in Old Trafford, while the second leg will be played on 6 March in Paris.
The PSG said in its statement that the 26-year-old footballer, who left the field crying after being injured in a French Cup match against Strasbourg on Jan. 23, will not undergo surgery after the club consulted “world-renowned experts” on Tuesday.
“The international striker agreed with this protocol,” said the statement of the Parisian club.
Last year, Neymar was down for 11 weeks after suffering an injury to a metatarsal on the same right foot, losing the Champions League Round of 16 to Real Madrid, who eventually eliminated PSG.
