London – Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic have not lost a set at Wimbledon. The two seeds stepped into the third round after winning their respective opponents.
Nadal beat Kazakhstan’s Mikhail Kukushkin in the second round at the All England Club in London on Thursday (5/7/2018). The second-seeded Spaniard finished the game 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 in 2 hours 23 minutes.
Nadal will be challenged by 19-year-old Australian Alex de Minaur in the third round. If able to defeat De Minaur, Nadal will retain the world number one ranking on July 16.
“He’s good, young, dangerous, good player, so let’s see, this is a good challenge for me,” Nadal said of his meeting with De Minaur.
“I’m very happy with the way I played today, it will be a good energy in the next round,” he told ATP’s official website.
In other matches, Djokovic also won three straight sets against Argentine Horacio Zeballos. The Serb won 6-1, 6-2, 6-3 in 90 minutes.
This is the 60th victory of Djokovic at Wimbledon. In the third round, he will face Kyle Edmund (England) or Bradley Klahn (United States).
Meanwhile, third seed Marin Cilic could not go any further. The Croatian tackled his opponent from Argentina, Guido Pella, with a score of 6-3, 6-1, 4-6, 6-7 (3), 5-7.
