Messi, named captain of the Barca at the start of the season, made his 435th league appearance for the club where he has spent his entire career after debuting in 2004.

The 31-year-old has won nine Spanish tournament titles and is on his way to winning the tenth, with Barcelona five points behind Atletico Madrid at the top of the standings.
