Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) star Conor McGregor claims he is in talks to fight Manny Pacquiao. The Irish fighter wants to focus again on boxing to win the world title.
McGregor is currently in the final stages of preparation for the UFC 246 battle against Donald Cerrone at T-Mobile Arena, Paradise, Nevada, Saturday (01/18/2020) local time.
However, the 31-year-old fighter is already waiting for the next fight and revealed, the fight can later switch back to boxing after his fight against Floyd Mayweather in 2017.
McGregor was stopped by Mayweather in the 10th round when the UFC superstar made his professional boxing debut in Las Vegas in August 2017. But McGregor won a lot of praise for the way he fought against five unbeatable champions.
In fact, their battle resulted in pay per view impressions (PPV) of more than 4 million purchases.
‘Manny Pacquiao’s talks have taken place,’ McGregor said in the Daily Mail. ‘We are negotiating with Zuffa boxing and McGregor Sports and Entertainment. My goal now is to win the boxing world title.’
‘I think it will be phenomenal and something that I want to achieve in the future. And something that I will achieve.’
‘I’m happy if there is a rematch against Floyd (Mayweather), McGregor added.
‘I think I can do it, because what is in front of me, very good.’
‘I think with a little adjustment I would do it better. So I feel I can win against Mayweather.’
Mayweather is now retired, making the possibility of a rematch impossible, but eight different division champions, Pacquiao, 41, are still actively fighting. Pacquiao’s last fight was a victory against Keith Thurman of America in Las Vegas in July. then that won him the WBA welterweight title (super).
