Atletico Madrid has confirmed that Premier League champions Manchester City have paid a €70 million (USD 78.96 million) cancellation clause for their midfielder Rodri.
The 23-year-old Spanish international was one of Pep Guardiola’s main targets for the signing season as he sought a successor to 34-year-old Brazilian defensive midfielder Fernandinho.
“Manchester City has deposited the amount of the termination clause on behalf of the player, Atletico said in a statement.
“The player has unilaterally terminated the employment contract that bound him to our club until June 30, 2023,” the club added.
