Despite losing 0-1 to Liverpool in the latest Premier League, Jose Mourinho still praised the performance of his players. One of the concerns of the Portuguese coach is Japhet Tanganga.
The match that took place at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (12/1) became a historic moment for Tanganga. Because it became the debut of the 20-year-old defender with The Lilywhites.
Interestingly Tanganga immediately entered the starting line-up and played in full. Unfortunately, the inaugural match did not end according to the plan. His hopes of making a beautiful debut must be ruined by Roberto Firmino’s goal in the 37th minute.
Nevertheless, Mourinho still praised his appearance. Although it was the first time he felt the Premier League, he did not look nervous. He was able to play well and had several times to prevent Firmino from scoring early in the game.
‘Can Tanganga be called a new player? He has never played with Tottenham in the Premier League. In this fight (against Liverpool) he played. And, he proved worthy of appearing with us,’ Mourinho said, reported Skysports.
That’s why Mourinho refused to discuss the winter market. The former Manchester United (MU) coach prefers to discuss the performance of his young defender who during his career only accompanied Tottenham.
‘The last thing I want to do after seeing the performance is discussing (new) players. I think this is one way to show respect for them, not talking about buying new players,’ continued The Special One.
Referring to Mourinho’s words, it can be concluded Tanganga’s future with Spurs will be bright. That is, he can hope to be included again in the starting line-up in the next match when entertaining Middlesbrough in the FA Cup replay (15/1), and when he went to Watford in the Premier League (18/1).
