Tennis: Djokovic beats darkness to reach Wimbledon quarterfinals
Novak Djokovic waited until 7 pm local time before his match against Karin Khachanov began at Wimbledon on Monday.
But the Serb did not stop anything as soon as he reached the pitch to win 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 and reach the quarter-finals for the tenth time.
After Kevin Anderson needed three and a half hours to beat Frenchman Gael Monfils, Djokovic said he had only two hours before dark if he wanted to avoid completing the match on Tuesday.
The 12th seed finished the match in perfect timing by 8:50 minutes after finishing the third chance when Khachanov hit back in the net after 20 minutes.
Djokovic, who won the title three times in the All England Club, beat Japan’s 24-year-old Kei Nishikori.
