Antonio Conte praised Inter Milan’s response after defeating Cagliari 4-1 in the last 16 of the Coppa Italia. The Italian coach was amazed his troops could immediately get up after achieving minimal results in Serie A.
Inter only shared the results 1-1 at home to Atalanta in domestic competition on Sunday (12/1). Even though in the home game, I Nerazzurri had the lead 1-0 in the 4th minute. As a result, they must go down to second place standings and two points behind Juventus.
But, it was immediately redeemed when Cagliari clashed at Giuseppe Meazza, Wednesday (1/15). Inter present a convincing performance by scoring many goals. The contributions of Romelu Lukaku (1, 49), Borja Valero (22) and Andrea Ranocchia (80) led to a place in the quarter-finals.
‘This is clearly a good response from the players. In fact, some players haven’t played for a long time, like Nicolo Barella. This is the first time he has started (after injury). I got positive feedback. Dimarco and Lazaro also performed well,’ Conte said.
Conte was very happy because his fleet showed off high determination while on the field. It was not only Lukaku who scored again, also other players. The euphoria of the former Chelsea coach is getting higher because his injured ammunition can graze again.
‘That also applies to Borja Valero, who displayed outstanding performance. While Alexis Sanchez showed that he is recovering (from an injury to Peroneus tendon) and a little more can play regularly,’ said Conte.
This development makes Conte optimistic that Inter can tackle Juventus who want to win the Scudetto for the ninth time in a row. At least, this will be a positive capital when later visited Lecce in Serie A continued on Sunday (1/19).
