Spanish Formula One driver Carlos Sainz will race for McLaren from next season, replacing Fernando Alonso, who announced he was leaving the premier class after 17 years.
“(Sainz) has signed a multi-year agreement with the team, replacing Fernando Alonso,” McLaren said in a statement.
Sainz, 23 years old and current Renault driver in Formula One, is eleventh in the current driver’s championship with 30 points.
“I am delighted to finally be able to confirm that I will be a McLaren driver from the 2019 season,” Sainz said in a statement posted on the MacLaren website.
Alonso, 37, has been twice champion and three times runner-up in Formula 1, and during his long career in F1 he became the youngest champion in history in 2005.
