The Buffalo Bills entered the regular season with a roster already plagued by injuries. Despite their determination, the team faced significant challenges right from the start.
Unfortunately, the situation has only worsened. The Bills have been hit by even more injuries, further straining their already weakened lineup.
Just a month after the Bills were dealt a severe blow with the loss of All-Pro linebacker Matt Milano for the season due to a torn biceps, the team is now facing another major setback. Before a critical AFC East showdown, the Bills are forced to rule out yet another key defensive player.
Coach Sean McDermott announced on WGR550 that slot cornerback Taron Johnson and veteran edge rusher Dawuane Smoot will both be sidelined for Thursday night’s crucial game against the Miami Dolphins.
Johnson sustained a forearm injury during the Bills’ initial defensive series in their Week 1 victory against the Arizona Cardinals, playing only seven snaps before being sidelined for the remainder of the game.
Smoot, who was already out for Buffalo’s Week 1 matchup due to a toe injury, will now miss his second consecutive game.
The abbreviated week has significantly impacted both players’ ability to suit up for the Bills as they head into Week 2. This setback is particularly challenging given that Buffalo is facing a Dolphins team widely recognized as one of the top offenses in the league.
Buffalo’s injury report also featured Josh Allen (hand), Ty Johnson (knee), Quintin Morris (shoulder), and Mitchell Trubisky (knee) this week. Fortunately, all four have been cleared and are set to play.
